Dienst Custom Homes helps build Habitat House in Cornelius
Cornelius, NC (November 10, 2005) - Dienst Custom Homes, a recognized leader in custom residential construction in the Charlotte area, is leading a team of volunteers in conjunction with Cornelius Elementary School to build a Habitat for Humanity house in Cornelius.
Last school year, former Cornelius Elementary principal Dr. Linda Morris and her students worked diligently to raise nearly $63,000, the estimated cost of a Habitat for Humanity home for a local family.
Current principal Barry Burford is working alongside a Volunteer Leadership team, each member of which has direct connections to Cornelius Elementary: Dienst Custom Homes, Lake Norman Realty, D. R. Monroe General Construction, Lake Norman Handyman Services and LakeNorman.com.
Burford says that the project is helping students develop a "global view of how they fit into the community around them." The Habitat home has impacted the "entire community, from the mayor to the children in every household," says Burford.
The Cornelius Elementary Habitat House groundbreaking was held on October 28, 2005. The team anticipates a 13-week build-out, with construction volunteers working each weekend through February 2006.

They also earned the prestigious title of "Honor School of Excellence" in the State ABCs testing program for 2004-2005, recognized by the State Board of Education for meeting or exceeding growth goals; having 90 percent or more of students at or above grade level; and making `Adequate Yearly Progress' under the No Child Left Behind federal legislation.
